17/06/08 - Dave Mason ![]() Dave Mason Liquid Revenge Sadly Dave Mason lost his short courageous battle with cancer; he passed away last Sunday in Waikato Hospital with his family by his side. Dave started racing in the early 60‘s he campaigned several successful boats Titian 1650cc racing runabout (G Class) Series 3000 Xanadu, Buckshot, and his last boat Procom Liquid Revenge. Winner of numerous NZ, North & South Island titles, Dave was the 101 person to achieve his Gold Badge in 1996, the same year was the High Points Series and one of the highlights in Dave’s boat racing career was winning the 1996 High Points Series for Procom. Dave was extremely keen on his motor sport he supported the Kiwi teams to Australia on many occasions, Bathurst, Motor Bikes, Aussie Logs, V8 touring cars, Rally Cars you name it he and his close friend Gary Denham did the lot and I might add with a few bottles of rum in hand. Business commitments took Dave away from racing but he continued to help out when he could as Race Controller, Starter, President of the Waikato Powerboat Club before they combined with Cambridge, Northern Zone President, NZ Executive member, Patron of the Cambridge Waikato Club of which he was involved with coming up 40 years. Dave was a strong supporter and long time crew member for Selwyn Coker and more recently a proud supporter of Scott Coker and Brett Mercer. To sum Dave up to me is easy Dave was a true legend an all round great guy, competitor and positive supporter of our sport. Every time you saw Dave he always had that huge infectious smile, even recently at Karapiro when he knew his time was limited, Dave was pleased to attend the reunion and catch up with many of his older boat racing friends. On behalf of the NZ Powerboat Association our special thoughts and best wishes are with Dave’s family and friends at this sad time. We will miss your happy smiling face around the boat racing. Rest in Peace Dave. Denise Moughan. A service will be held for Dave Thursday 19th June 2pm at the Glenview Club 211 Peacocks Road Hamilton. 25/5/08 - Cambridge/Waikato Kilos
7/5/08
- Wellington Closing Day 22/04/08 - Series 3000 Drivers Champion
The Series 3000 Drivers Club Series was won by Paul Robertson in "Going Going Gone" The Series was run over 6 rounds with a driver able to discount their lowest scoring round both Handicap and Scratch Racing was contested which makes consistency and not outright speed the key to winning the Championship
