15/2/2011 - Manawatu Power Boat Club

The River on Saturday was just perfect for racing all day, Here's hoping for similar conditions in 3 weeks Time.

Thompson Contracting were assisting with the digging to lay the new Power Cable. We were going to connect it to the cable that went out to the middle of the campground but some mongrels had dug it up and ripped it out. All that remains now is for the Powerboard to show up and connect the wires to the Pole. The Water Pipes were dug up and relaid and we will have a couple of taps on that, one of which will plug into the Portable Showers. We do recommend boiling the water just for safety reasons. A third Tap will go into a Water Heater for tea and coffee.
The grass will be mowed the week before by the Farmer. We will place the Marquee in front of the ruins where the Chiller will also be located. Portaloos are supplied some of which are only for use by the Women

Please Get your Entries in as soon as possible:
Entries for the North Island Series 3000 Title close on March 5th as per rule book. If there are not 5 Series 3000 entries received by then The Club will not run this Championship.

20/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta 2.15pm

Winter Cup last race of the day. with Scorpion in the field Rodney Wood was going to be pretty hard to head off and really only a mechanical breakdown was going to stop Rodney from taking the win. Ian Warmington in Razzle Dazzle drove well to head home Jeff Robinson in Star Trax. Coming Home in 4th place was Final Justice whom lead home DSR Racing who seems to have the F3 going a lot better. Both Brooster and Wild Thing Failed to Finish the Race.

Racing Finished for the Day, Prize Giving about 3pm

20/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta 1.55pm

Race 4 was a handicap race with Scorpion starting last and catching the field quite fast DSR Racing which started on go but was running pretty slow by the race end. Star Trax and Final Justice battled it out for second place.

Race 5 another smaller field but good handicapping by the officials with Brooster and Wild Thing finishing close together just behind Wasted Nights, 15 Year old Kieran Buttimore secured his first podium finishing in 3rd with Allan Steiner in Misty Blue getting DQ.

Race 6 Hamish Buttimore had the Spark Lead fall of three times which ruined his race DSR Racing looked to finish ahead of Final Justice with Brooster also stopping on Course.

Winter Cup last of the day up next.

20/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta 12.15pm

First Handicap race of the Day and while you can never tell who has broken there times it was clear Noeline broke the start by a good 20 seconds so she would have been DQ. Brooster judged the start to perfection and wasn't headed by the faster boats until lap 3, Star Trax, Wasted Nights and Razzle Dazzle all started together with Wild Thing whom only had to do 3 laps. Star Trax crossed the line first with Wasted Nights and Razzle Dazzle next followed by Brooster and Wild Thing.

Next up a Lunch and more Handicap races.

20/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta 11.55am

Rodney Wood got "Scorpion" on the plane the new gears were better for the new prop. Tony Arthur looked to have a steering problem spinning out on lap 3. Armageddon came to a halt on turn 2 of the first lap and DSR Racing pulled out to the centre of the course on the Lap 2. That just left Final Justice to finish 2nd.

Next up a Handicap race for the Flattie's then lunch break and more handicap Racing.

20/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta 11.40am

The flattie's just had a great race with Ian, Jeff & Evan swapping the lead. Ian having been to the McKinstry school of Driving hit the Buoy on the last turn and came second(unofficially) to Evan with Jeff in 3rd and Noeline also hitting the buoy in 4th next came Bruce and young Kieran finishing his first race ever in 6th place

20/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta 9.35am

Another cracker of a day in Wellington today with the Tony Arthur "Fast FWD" & Scott Dennis "DSR Racing" arriving today. The two F2 Tunnels from Yesterday "Instigator" & "The Situation" wont be returning today haven't seen Tempo Too Team yet but Rodney Wood "Scorpion" has returned after changing the Gears in his boat and will hopefully get up on the plane with the new prop.
Will be a nice social Racing programme today

20/2/2011 - Graeme Sutherland
On 17th February a long time friend of our sport, Graeme Sutherland passed away in Wellington. The family have requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Mary Potter Hospice where Graeme had been cared for in his recent life.
The funeral is on Wednesday 23rd February in Wellington

A brief of Graeme Sutherland’s Offshore Racing Career
Graeme and his brother John raced offshore powerboats extensively in New Zealand in the early to mid 70’s. Their best known boat then was “Raro”, a triple rigged Formula 23. Graeme was elected President of the NZOPA and served the sport in this position for five years in the late 1970’s to early 1980’s. Graeme’s family presented the prestigious “Sutherland Family Trophy” around this time and this trophy remains the premium award for the annual New Zealand Offshore Powerboat Drivers Championship. In 1981 Graeme purchased in the USA a 29ft Scarab powered by triple 240hp outboards. This boat was noted as the first offshore race boat to be built using Kevlar. It was named Continental Airlines and in November 1981 Graeme together with long time racing partner Kevin Green became the first New Zealander to win a World Offshore Powerboat Championship. That was the U.I.M. World Class 2 championship which was contested in Key West, USA. Following that the boat was shipped back to New Zealand and Graeme and Kevin raced it extensively in the NZ championship and the marathon events during the 1982 and 1983 seasons. In 1985 Graeme commissioned the building of a 41ft Apache boat to contest the 1986 Class One World Championship in Auckland, NZ. This boat was named Warlord. Following that event the boat was shipped back to the USA where Graeme and Kevin campaigned it on the gruelling USA offshore circuit during the 1987 – 1989 seasons. Graeme was a significant contributor to our sport both as a competitor and as an administrator.

19/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta Prizegiving

Fusion Metals King of the Harbour.
Winner by Sam Hughes in "The Situation" looking to see if Steve had won this trophy before.

A rather subdued Prizegiving in front of a smallish crowd saw the presentation of the NI UU and Fusion Metals King of the Harbour Trophy as well as the Cheques for those in Attendance.
The North Island GNH was awarded on points to Brenden Hall in "Armageddon" as no other boats were able to start the last Heat.
The $100 Lucky Draw for The Boaties was won by Allan Steiner in "Misty Blue".
The Clubrooms will remain open for the Night as the Meal is now being served and for those whom wish to help support the Club by supporting the Bar.

19/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta 2.30pm

Race 6 Fusion Metals King of the Harbour.
Has been won by Sam Hughes in "The Situation" over Jamie Hargreaves in "Instigator" with Ian Warmington in "Razzle Dazzle" in 3rd.
It was a good race with a very tight battle in 3rd place with Jeff, Ian & Allan Racing very close and quite hard together.

Tomorrow racing will consist of mixed class handicapping to even the fields out.

19/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta 1.58pm

Race 5 Mixed Class Scratch Race
5 Starters in this race with Wasted Nights, Final Justice and Misty Blue all running close going in to turn 2 when things got a little tricky for Noeline as she very nearly got thrown out of Misty Blue. It Didn't slow Noeline down much as she drove hard the rest of the race to come home in 3rd place. Wasted Nights and Final Justice fought it out over the race distance with the Mod VP boat Final Justice coming in 2nd to Evan White in Wasted Nights. Brooster finished 4th with a misfiring Wild Thing this time driven by Hamish Buttimore coming home 5th.

Up next the Final race the Fusion Metals King of the Harbour.

19/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta 1.37pm

Race 4 was the NI UU Heat 1
8 starters and again Sam Hughes stormed away in the Lead all the way to Victory wrapping up the North Island Unlimited Unrestricted Title. In second place in the race was came Instigator which also gave him second place in the Championship. In third place after a torrid battle with Star Trax was Ian Warmington in Razzle Dazzle. 5th Place was a strong running Allan Stiener in Misty Blue who headed home Final Justice and Armageddon with Brooster bringing up the rear.

Official Results North Island UU:
1st Place Sam Hughes "The Situation"
2nd Place Jamie Hargreaves"Instigator"
3rd Place Ian Warmington "Razzle Dazzle"

A Mixed race up next and then the Fusion Metals King of the Harbour Race.

19/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta 1.15pm

Race 3 was the NI UU Heat 1
8 starters in the Race and The Situation opened up a lead from the get go to head into turn 1 in first place. Sam has the boat sitting nicely and won the race driving away from the field. In Second it was razzle dazzle trying to hold off Instigator but the nimble F2 boat proved too quick in the corners and took control to finish 2nd. Star Trax was in 4th ahead of Final Justice with Misty Blue coming in 6th. Misty blue was showered by Instigator in turn one shutting down the 3lt Toyota so Allan did well to catch up the pack and come home 6th. Brooster finished in 6th and Armageddon failed to finish.
The Hydros are not proving to be very reliable today at all.
Scorpion has water in the oil and is probably out for the Day.

19/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta 12.15pm

Race 2 was the NI GNH Heat 1
Tempo Too has pulled out just as the Race started with a broken Fuel Pump. leaving only Armageddon and Scorpion to start, On the Start Scorpion just would not get up on the plane and stayed bogged down the whole race unable to make an impression on Brenden Hall in Armageddon who won comfortably
Lunch Break is on at the Moment.

19/2/2011 - Wellington Regatta 11.45am

Race 1 was the Flattie's Series 3000/Prostock/Procom
Razzle Dazzle and Star Trax battled for the lead for the first two laps before Razzle Dazzle started to pull away with Star Trax falling back to be nearly caught on the line by Wasted Nights. Noeline Stiener in Misty Blue was in 4th heading home Brooster. kieran Buttimore a 4th Generation Driver in Wild Thing is learning the ropes fast but failed to finish still coming to grips with the boats engine and handling.
With a couple of the Hydros not showing up there are a few changes to the programme next up the NI GNH and then a Lunch Break.

19/2/2011 - Wellington Power Boat Club Regatta 9.15am

If the Morning is anything to go by then the water and weather will be a cracker of a day. Racing due to get underway at about 11am. So far 11 Boats have shown up with the notable exception of Kent Dunlop in Razors Edge whom discovered a crack in the No.7 bore on Thursday and has had to withdraw.
