2/1/2012 - Lakeland Regatta 12.30pm
Sunshine today and just before lunch they ran the Des Geddes a beach start race. Steve Hughes and Luke Sharp led away from the beach closely followed by the 3 F2's and Scott Coker. Craig Henwood had a lot of trouble getting the jet boat on the plane and lost a good half lap at the Start. Scott Coker slowly started to pick the Tunnel Boats one by one and he may have had enough time to catch Luke Sharp on the last lap but more gremlins saw him shut down with just half a lap to go.
1st Luke Sharp Promt Parts"
2nd Steve Hughes "Stealth"
3rd Sam Hughes "The Situation"
The V8 Challenge was down on numbers but a great battle for the lead with Mike Denham and Steve Mathieson with Mike just holding off Steve until the last lap when the "Inject the Venom" boat coasted to a stop.
1/1/2012 - Lakeland Regatta 7.20pm
Jamie Knight sits waiting while the Rain continued to fall for the start of Heat 2.
North Island U/U Champion:
1st Jamie Knight "The Phantom"
2nd Rory Anthony "Predator"
3rd Craig Henwood "Evil Racing"
Heat 1 saw Luke Sharp and Scott Coker miss the Start both with Mechanical gremlins. Steve Hughes had a stoppage in the Race and had a DNF leaving Jamie Knight to win from Rory Anthony and Craig Henwood.
Heat 2 turned out to be the last race of the day as conditions were to dangerous to race with poor visibility. Steve Hughes had returned with another Engine, but yet again failed to finish. Jamie Knight almost missed starting the race with a flat battery but his crew managed to jump start the boat. Jamie and Rory had a close battle with Jamie taking the win and the title from Rory and Craig Henwood.
Paul Robertson was too fast for the North Island Series 3000 title with Going Going Gone.
North Island Series 3000 Title:
1st Paul Robertson "Going Going Gone"
2nd Noeline Steiner"Misty Blue"
3rd Bruce Packer "Brooster"
The first heat saw Mike Robertson in Brayka and Dale Pendergast in Suzie IV Pull out as Paul Robertson won comfortably over Noeline Steiner and Bruce Packer.
Heat 2 was a much closer affair with the poor weather conditions making the race more even as the boats didn't want to push too hard. Paul Robertson won with Mike Robinson second and Noeline Steiner 3rd with Bruce Packer 4th
Steve Denham in "Inject the Venom.
The Lakeland Club got through 10 races before having to pull the pin on the racing today due to the inclement weather that has plagued the Country.
There are a few boats out for the meeting with damaged Engines but the weather tomorrow is more promising and the Coker's have returned with the GP Fair Warning and are keen for a run. The Clubmans boats were running on a short Triangle Course the racing was quite good a lot of the Boats are quite close and are providing a good learning experience for the new drivers.
Brendon Cornes "Total Chaos" was out in his new F2 boat and will be making some changes to get the Boat running better.
1/1/2012 - Lakeland Regatta 2.00pm
Sadly Today has featured quite a few Breakdowns as the teams struggle with the start of the Season. Two of the top boats Stealth and Fair Warning have both returned home to work on there engines but will return and hopefully in time to test the engines today. The new Boat Inject the Venom which was only just put together has performed well .
1/1/2012 - Lakeland Regatta 10.30am
Its a very nice day at Mangakino today. We have just over 35 boats at the moment from the small Clubmans up t the Big GP of Scott Coker. Testing is about to get underway shortly then racing from 11am. 14 Races are on the cards today so it will be a full on meeting. We will do an update at Lunchtime and something up at the end of the Day.
Island UU title should be a god contest as all the F1 Tunnels are running
the higher spec engines and Coker will be made to work hard if he wants
to win this Title.
