Season
Objectives: To provide sponsors with maximum exposure. Reliability. Continue to develop both hull and engine. Profile: The Stilwell family has been competing in NZ powerboat racing for over 50 years and is well known throughout the country for their achievements. As a third generation boat racer, Julian decided to take up the family tradition in 1997. Starting in Formula 3, Stilwell moved quickly to the top clinching the NZ North Island F3 championship at his debut regatta. In 2002, came the opportunity of a lifetime. With veteran driver Steve Hughes out with injury, Stilwell was requested to drive in the 1st round of the NZ Formula 1 championship for the Shell Nautilus F1 team. Stilwell showed potential, finishing a promising 5th overall in his F1 debut. This motivated Julian to step up to F1 and the team built a new F1 hull for the 2007 season which achieved 3rd in the NZ F1 Championship in both 2008 and 2010. Taking a break from racing in 2011, the team have put a new Seebold hull on the water for 2012 and are looking forward to ‘attacking’ the NZ F1 Championship this season. Julian’s brother, Philip also owns and drives an F1/F2 boat. He is currently taking a break from racing to pursue other interests but is still a valuable member to the team in the pit area. |
